Hey there, fellow cigar aficionado!
I'm excited this week to take you on a journey through the rich world of Ramón Allones cigars. This brand has been close to my heart, with a history dating back to 1837 and some of the most remarkable innovations in the cigar industry. Today we'll explore the fascinating evolution of their iconic cigar bands, So, light up your favorite Ramón Allones, sit back, and join me as we celebrate this timeless classic.
The Ramón Allones brand, is indeed a gem in the world of premium cigars, it holds a distinguished place in the hearts of cuban cigar afficionados. Founded in 1837 by brothers Ramón and Antonio Allones, this brand emerged as a pioneer in the cigar industry. The Allones brothers, originally from Galicia, Spain, set out to create a cigar brand that represented luxury and excellence.
Ramón Allones was the first to use colorful lithographed labels on cigar boxes, an iconic move that revolutionized cigar packaging and set a new standard for the industry. This innovation not only enhanced the visual appeal but also helped in establishing brand identity and recognition. And today we will go through the many designs that the Ramon Allones “anillas” had.
Despite its early success, the Ramón Allones brand faced turbulent times. The political and economic upheavals of the 20th century, including the Cuban Revolution, had a profound impact on the cigar industry. The brand, like many others, experienced significant disruptions. Production ceased for a period, and Ramón Allones faded into history.
However, the story of Ramón Allones did not end there, the brand was resurrected by the Cuban state-owned company, Cubatabaco, which later became Habanos S.A. The revival was driven by a desire to preserve the rich heritage and unique qualities of Ramón Allones cigars. Today, the brand is produced at the Partagás factory in Havana, where skilled torcedores continue to craft cigars that honor the Allones legacy.I am sure unofficially other factories like “La Corona” roll some of them as it’s the case with Cohiba and Trinidad.
Ramón Allones cigars are well known for their full-bodied strength and complex flavor profile. These cigars are crafted from a blend of premium Cuban tobaccos, known for their robustness and depth. They are a favorite brand among seasoned aficionados who appreciate a rich and intense smoking experience.
The flavor profile of Ramón Allones cigars is a sweet combination of bold and nuanced notes. Smokers can expect a harmonious blend of earthiness, cedar, and a hint of spice. The aroma is equally captivating, offering a bouquet of rich tobacco, leather, and subtle sweetness. Each puff delivers a balanced yet powerful taste, with a lingering finish that leaves a lasting impression.
Let’s take a look at the bands that crowned the Ramon Allones cigars through the years
The first example is the black and white band, dating before the revolution and discontinued officially circa 2005, although they were very hard to spot in the 2000s
This band was resurected however by Hunters and Frankau when they released the Ramon Allones Private stock 230, celebrating 230 years of collaboration between them and Habanos SA.
The second aniila is one the circulated beofre the cuban revolution as well and was discontinued in 1972.
The first time we see this one being bought back was for a limited edition in 2011 with the Ramon Allones - Allones Extra. Vitola de galera Franciscos 44x143. We see it again in a regional edition release for Italy on the Ramon Allones Short Perfectos, again on a regional for Suiza in 2014 , a Britanicas Extra (almost) double figurado shape. A very important release wearing the same anilla was the 40 Carat Edition Regional Paises Bajos. A fantastic cigar hunted by everyone.
This band also saw a small adjustment and was worn by the Regional Edition for Italy , the Noellas, a beautiful habano which was released in a jar for a higher collectability factor.
A more recognizable band for Ramon Allones is the red and gold one, used from 1972 and discontinued in 2008 just because it went through some improvements.
Finally we have the current band for Ramon Allones, released in 2008 and still used today on our favorite cigars like the Specially Selected, the no3, etc…
It is worth noting that before it’s official release in 2008 it was tested on a few regional editions from 2006 - The Eminencia Edition Regional Suiza for example.
The revival of Ramón Allones in the 1970s brought about a modern twist to its band designs. While maintaining elements of its classic aesthetics, the new bands incorporated contemporary design features. The use of embossed lettering and intricate detailing on the bands reflected a blend of tradition and modernity. These bands symbolize the brand’s enduring legacy and its adaptation to the evolving tastes of cigar enthusiasts. Whenever a cigar is released with a discontinued band, I am pleased to see that the brand's roots are still honored and preserved.
The Ramón Allones brand innovation and excellence in the world of premium cigars. From its pioneering beginnings in 1837 to its revival and modernization, Ramón Allones has continually set standards in taste and quality. The brand’s full-bodied cigars, with their complex flavor profiles and rich aromas, offer a perfecet smoking experience.
